Current Affairs Strategy (12-Month Window)

UPSC 2026 me 25-30% questions current affairs se. Window: June 2025 - April 2026.

Top 5 Themes for 2026 Prelims

  1. AI Mission + India's tech initiatives (National AI Research Grid, IndiaAI)
  2. Space Missions (Gaganyaan, Chandrayaan-4, NISAR launch)
  3. Green Hydrogen Mission + Clean Energy (PM Surya Ghar, renewables)
  4. Climate Action (Heat Action Plan, glacier monitoring, SDGs)

  • Monthly: PT365 / IASBaba CA compilation (last 12 months)

Smart move: Last 20 din me monthly compilations read karo (3-4 months × 4 hrs = 16 hrs total). Daily news avoid karo - time waste.

New Multi-Statement Question Pattern (35%+ Paper)

UPSC 2024-25 me major shift hua: factual one-liner se multi-statement pair-matching format me. 35%+ questions ab is style me.

Question Types (2026 Expected)

  • "How many of the above pairs are correctly matched?" → 4-5 pairs given, count correct
  • "Consider the following statements... which are correct?" → 3-4 statements
  • "With reference to X, which of the following is/are correct?" → conceptual depth

Strategy for Multi-Statement

  1. Eliminate 1-2 wrong statements via partial knowledge → narrows options
  2. Don't 100% confidence chase - 75% confidence with elimination = attempt
  3. Conceptual depth > rote memorization - PYQ trends NCERT-rooted concepts
  4. Time per Q: 1 min 12 sec (100 Q in 120 min) - multi-statement = 1.5 min OK

CSAT 33% Qualifying Strategy

CSAT (Paper II) NOT in merit but mandatory qualify at 33% (66/200). Hindi medium aspirants ka biggest pain point.

CSAT Pattern (80 Q, 200 marks, 2 hrs)

Section Q (approx)
Reading Comprehension (English) 30-32
Logical Reasoning 12-15
Quantitative Aptitude 12-15
Data Interpretation 8-10
Decision Making 5-8 (no negative)

Qualifying Strategy

  • Target: 30-35 correct (more than enough for 66/200)
  • RC 25-28 correct = nearly qualifying alone (if English strong)
  • Math/Reasoning weak? Focus RC + Decision Making (no negative penalty)
  • Daily 30 min CSAT practice in last 20 days = sufficient

Don't over-invest CSAT - 30 min daily max. GS Paper 1 me time chahiye.

Cut-Off Trend + Safe Score (2026 Expected)

Year General OBC SC ST EWS
2024 87.54 84.85 79.03 74.23 85.92

UPSC Prelims 2026 FAQs

Q: 20 din me Prelims clear ho sakta hai? A: Foundation strong hai to YES. Last 20 days = revision + mock + CA. Foundation weak = 20 days insufficient. Honest assessment karo.

Q: GS Paper 1 me kitne marks chahiye Mains qualify? A: General 85-90/200 safe (cut-off + 5-10 buffer). 95+ = comfortable. 80-85 = borderline depending on CSAT difficulty.

Q: CSAT me kitne attempt karne chahiye? A: 35-40 confident attempts = 70-80 marks raw. Net (after negatives) ~70 = qualifying achieved. Don't aim 50+ at cost of accuracy.

Q: Multi-statement question me strategy? A: Eliminate-then-attempt: 5 pairs me 2 obvious wrong eliminate karo → 3 pairs left → educated guess. Pure random = -1/3 nuksaan, eliminate = positive expected value.

Q: Last 20 days me coaching test series start karu? A: NO new test series. Current series mocks complete karo (10-15 mocks suffices). New series = unfamiliar style = confusion + low score.

Q: Negative marking strategy? A: 80%+ confidence = attempt, 50-80% = strategic guess (eliminate options first), <50% = LEAVE blank. Random guess = -1/3 expected loss.

Q: Cut-off trend dekhke realistic target? A: Past 5 years cut-off 75-88 range (Gen). 2026 difficulty moderate expected → cut-off 85-90 likely. Aim 95+ for safe Mains qualification.

Q: Bihar candidates ke liye kuch alag? A: No state quota in UPSC - all India merit only. Bihar Lok Seva Aayog (BPSC) separate hai state services ke liye. UPSC me sab same paper, same cut-off.
